Robert Neal Marshall, Dramatists Guild, Sag-Aftra, AEA

Executive Producer/Writer/Director

A graduate of New York University Film, Robert Neal Marshall worked for over a year as Casting Associate with Casting Director Pat Moran, C.S.A. (THE WIRE, HAIRSPRAY, HOMICIDE:LIFE ON THE STREET) and was a proud member of the team to win an Emmy® Award for casting GAME CHANGE starring Julianne Moore, directed by Jay Roach and an Emmy® Nomination for casting Season one of VEEP starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, both for HBO.

Robert enjoys the variety of freelance production with credits as Line Producer, Production Manager and 1st Assistant Director on a variety of feature films and shorts. He served as Production Manager and Co-Casting Director on the feature film THE NIGHT WATCHMEN, starring James Remar, Matt Servitto and Rain Pryor. Early projects took him to Berlin, Germany where he was Script Supervisor with Regina Ziegler Produktions. His credits include Assistant Camera and Production Management on multiple Industrials for Chicago based Jack Lieb Productions Chicago based Jack Lieb Productions. Robert was Post Production Manager for the late Shirley Clarke on ORNETTE COLEMAN: MADE IN AMERICA for Caravan of Dreams.

Robert’s documentary documentary BACK FROM THE LIGHT is available online and via streaming video as well as his DVD THREE QUEENS-AN INTERNATIONAL RENDEZVOUS, released in 2008 to coincide with the final journey of the QE2. His documentary, MR. OCEAN LINER, about the life and times of maritime historian and author Bill Miller (which had its World Premiere aboard Queen Mary 2), proudly joins these ranks and made its Lincoln Center and New York City premiere in High Definition as part of “Cinematic Passages: The Ocean Liner on Screen” at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.

In the early 1980‘s Robert had the opportunity to move into theatrical production in the West End of London as Assistant to late producer Richard Armitage on several hit shows, including ME AND MY GIRL starring Emma Thompson & Robert Lindsay, HIGH SOCIETY starring Natasha Richardson, directed by Richard Eyre, THE ENTERTAINER, and Rowan Atkinson’s one man show A NEW REVUE. While in London Robert produced and directed the successful West End debut of IS THERE LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL? at the Donmar Warehouse.

His musical RUMPELSTILTSKIN’S DAUGHTER was presented at the prestigious Assembly Rooms at the Edinburgh Festival and has seen regional productions in Maryland, for Theatre IV in Richmond Virginia and at the Earl’s Court Festival in London, UK. Robert’s dramatic play adaptation 41N 50W based on the 1912 Titanic US Senate hearings showcased at the St. James Theatre in London, at the SeaCity Museum in Southampton, England. Both project are currently under renwed development for larger production in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

As Producer/Tour Manager he traveled with Richard Pryor’s daughter, Rain Pryor, on her one woman show FRIED CHICKEN & LATKES, also producing initial workshops of AFTER ALL for Tony Award nominated actress Anita Gillette.

A member of Dramatists’ Guild, Screen Actors Guild/AFTRA and Actors’ Equity, Robert is no stranger in front of the camera and on stage. He recently appeared in a principal role in the final season of HOUSE OF CARDS and a co-starring role as producer William Selig in BILL TILGHMAN AND THE OUTLAWS. Other credits include FDNY Capt. Jay Jonas in the Emmy Nominated COUNTDOWN TO GROUND ZERO for the History Channel, as Captain Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama in SOMALI PIRATE TAKEDOWN for The Discovery Channel, and both the Off-Broadway and Baltimore Hippodrome productions of Ken Davenport’s hit interactive comedy AWESOME 80’S PROM.

Since 2009 Robert has enjoyed much time at sea as one of the top rated Guest Lecturers on board Queen Mary 2 with the Cunard Line’s award winning Insights® Enrichment Programme. His topics on film and theatre include a retrospective of the Newsreels with rare color footage of the D-Day invasion in Normandy and the Liberation of Paris captured by his Grandfather as a newsreel cameraman during WWII, plus a very unique conversation about his 2013  “Widow Maker” heart attack, Near Death Experience, resuscitation, and subsequent documentary film BACK FROM THE LIGHT about the aftereffects of surviving an NDE.

In 2012, Columbia Fesitval of the Arts then Executive Director, Nichole Hickey, recruited Marshall from Pat Moran Casting to act for a season as Programming Manger. Marshall eventually returned to CFA in 2020 as Executive Producer of the Columbia Film Festival, as part of the larger Festival. When the Covid pandemic hit, Marshall was made Exective Director of the parent Columbia Festival of the Arts after he transitioned the films to an  all virtual platform, allowing CFA to survive and eventually recover with a return to their full scale Arts programming. After a three year tenure with CFA, Marshall is excited to return to his independent productions and projects. A 30 year Howard County resident, Marshall lives in Columbia with his Husband of 37 years, and a 5lb rescue Chihuahua (who he met on a film set) that has more Instagram followers than he does!
